About Oaxaca

Oaxaca is a mountaionous state in southern Mexico along the Pacific Ocean, covering an area of about 95,364 km. Its low-lying coast rises to several plateaus crossed by deep fertile valleys.The capital is Oaxaca, and the state's popilation is 2,361,700. Most of the people are Zapotec and Mixtec Indians. The economy is based on agriculture, and the main crops include corn, wheat, and rice. Silver and gold have been found in large quantities. Among the state's many archaeological sites the most famous is perhaps Monte Alban. Oaxaca was conquered by the spanish in 1522.
