The Rules

Baseball is played on a field of dirt and grass, with a pitchers mound, 3 bases aranged in a diamond, and a home plate. There is a wall in the outfield various lengths from home plate. This is a game between two teams of nine players each, under direction of a manager or coach, under jurisdiction of one or more umpires, carrying out rules and regulations of the game. The object of each team is to win by scoring more runs than the opponent.

In order to get on base you have to either hit a pitch into fair territory without the ball being caught in mid-air, or beat the ball to first base, walk, get hit by a pitch, or have no one on base and the pitcher bock. In baseball there is a so called "count". The "count" is the number of balls and strikes in that at bat. Balls are said first, and strikes are said second. In order to get a strike, the pitch either has to be thrown in the strike zone of the batter, or the batter swing at the pitch and either miss or foul off the pitch. In order for there to be a ball, the pitcher must throw a pitch that is not in the batter's strike zone.
