Meningitis can be treated with a number of effective antibiotics. If you suspect that someone is ill with meningitis, you should immediatly contact a doctor. You must tell the doctor that you think it is Meningitis, and if you can not contact a doctor go to the emergency room. If it is meningitis you must treat it with antibiotics immediatly.

There are vaccinations to protect against Meningitis, but they can't prevent all strains of it. There isn't a medicine yet that can prevent all strains of meningitis. A vaccine that protects against Meningitis is offered as part of the childhood immunisation program.
